Street Names

  • Farr Street – After James Farr of Barrow Hill Farm, who ran an omnibus service to Bristol and was a local councillor at the time this road was built. Early 20th century.
  • Collins Street – George Collins was sub-manager of the Cold Stores on the Docks and was a local councillor who lived in Shirehampton. He was the organist at his local church.
  • Davis Street – After George Davis a local councillor who lived at Burlington House, Shirehampton.
  • Cook Street – William Cook, a Shirehampton councillor who lived at Hallen.
  • Poole Street – After Frank Poole, a Shirehampton councillor and commercial reporter.
  • Catherine Street – Named after a Catherine connected to Jefferies, ship repairers.
  • Clayton Street – Used to be called Clayfield Street.
  • Napier Square/Road – Named after the last owner of King’s Weston House that ceased to be a family home in 1937.
  • Akeman Way, Ermine Way, Watlin Way, Stane Way, Maiden Way, Leeming Way – Roman connection due to Lawrence Weston and Sea Mills finds during development in 1940s and 50s.
