In September 2007, Myers-Insole Local Learning ran a mock archaeological dig for pupils from Henbury Secondary School at City of Bristol College’s Lawrence Weston site.

The digs were led by an experienced archaeologist from Cotswold Archaeology and provided a brief experience of how archaeologists find out about the past.

Pupils visiting the site were split into groups of five who each took it in turns to try different aspects of archaeological work; excavation, finds processing and site recording. They worked with actual archaeological artefacts that were buried in sand filled features in the shallow ‘archaeological’ trench.

"I most enjoyed the part where we had to dig in the soil and record our findings." Barry.

"I learned how to be an archaeologist and what the pots looked like in the past." Molly.
