Stokes Croft THI Top Trumps

Before the Victorian period Bristol was still a relatively small town and beyond Stokes Croft, behind the houses to the east and north of Wilder Street, were fields where now most of the houses in St Pauls are, see the map from 1828 on the main menu. During the Victorian period (1837-1901) Bristol more than doubled in size and new terraced housing was built on these fields. City Road, Hepburn Road, Brigstocke Road and others in the area follow the routes of old field boundaries, the fields themselves having been sold off for development as Bristol needed new housing for the people who were working in many of the new industries in the area. Many of these Victorian developments are visible around Stokes Croft like the terraced housing, the associated shops and places of worship as well as some of the industrial buildings.

48 Top Trump cards have been created by students from St Michael's Primary School and Fairbridge West. Each card represents one of the buildings in and around the area of Stokes Croft.
